Music Tuesday #252: The absence of thrash is not a bad thing

The best ballads come from metal bands.  That's a given.  Now and then, a metal band re-invents itself and does something that is bigger than the genre reviewers like to box them in.  No boxes on Music Tuesday.  Somehow I find this more impressive than Disturbed's Sound of Silence, which I heard at a live concert in 2016 for the first time.  I somehow didn't get into that.  While this song touches the right nerves with me. No idea why though. In case you wonder too what Sylosis could mean?  I looked it up.  Apparently it has no meaning.  There, now have a listen. Music Tuesday #251: Amber effluent of arcane arts

In these days of doom and gloom as the world dies and wars are back in fashion where do we find the perfect soundtrack?  In Belgium it seems, this new band sounds like they are a bunch of experienced musicians. This album was tracked live in the studio and you hear the tight group coming together on this nicely produced album.  I hear that their live performance is top notch too.  I've got CD 109 out of only 200 pressed.  At the time of writing there are only 13 left.  This might well be a future stoner metal iconic album.  Become part of history and order a CD to support good music. Music Tuesday #250: Music trends - guitars are back

Rick Beato posted a youtube video detailing current trends in the Bilboard top 100 in terms of music genres gaining or losing popularity.  Guess what, hip hop is down, pop stays popular, RnB is way down and rock is gaining popularity! Yay! Now let's do some experimental rock to celebrate post number 250. Tomahawk - God hates a Coward https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=_rhb-DsO8Ik

Music Tuesday #249: China's City

I remember way back in 2000 in an office in Reading (UK) a conversation with a colleague who let me read King Rat by China Miéville.  I became a fan of one of the most interesting sci fi writers of the last 25 years. This song, taken from SabaSaba's newest album "Unknown City", is featured just because it is supposed to be inspired by one of Miéville's books called The City & The City. One of the few books I haven't read yet.  So although the music does not resonate all that much with me, I do like the sense of dread and the uncomfortable soundscape of this song.  It goes particularly well with te video images in the accompanying music video. If you are into reading then try out Miéville.  His New Weird novels are genre defining books. SabaSaba - UI Qoma https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=NGVUgVFcTFo
