Music Tuesday #057: Gentle Ghent

A good spot to discover new music are the AB sessions on YouTube.  I can't find the original acoustic session which caught my attention of this singer from Ghent, but here's the official video of that song: Sarah Ferri - On My Own https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=aqcn8KINOFs In the end I bought her first album  Ferritales (2012) ,  but haven't decided yet on buying her second album from 2016.  Maybe I should.

Music Tuesday #056: Medieval Madness

Apart from a reference to my favorite pinball game, feel free to gift an original if you have a spare, this weeks music goes back to medieval times with a band called Mediaeval Baebes.  I haven't got a clue how I came across them, but in the meantime I have collected several albums.  They are not high on my rotation playlists, but I do seek them out now and then when I feel like it.  The first song I've ever heard from them must have been in 2000, a couple of years after the band got formed.  It is the song for this week's Music Tuesday and titled Undrentide, just like the album where you can find it on.  While doing some background research for this week I found out that John Cale produced this album.  This reminds me that I could do a chain of posts al linked by a single person.  John Cale, of the Velvet Underground fame, would be a good starting point. For the language buffs: undrentide means the third hour of the day (9AM) in middle English.  Sometimes referenced to

Music Tuesday #055: the guys from the Menin gates

This is a good one.  I found this band in the Spotify playlist called "Belgian Metal" by Jan Huygens (of Hexa Mera fame).  I came across this playlist because Chuck Loesch is following him.  Chuck Loesch (Twitter: @beardedape) used to host the now defunct metalsucks podcast.  I still follow Chuck on Spotify, he's my guide in metal land. This week's song caught my attention on Spotify but the video on YouTube makes is even better.  Clearly taped in and around Menen, Belgium, it features a number of Flemish celebrities which I wasn't expecting. Do you spot them too?  The touch of Abba at the end of the video is gold. King Hiss - La Haine https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=uBMDN4NgE8A

Music Tuesday #054: Never eat pomplamoose

I am banned from eating grapefruit for the foreseeable future.  If you want to know the story behind this little known fact, ask me when I am sufficiently mellowed by a good whiskey. Anyway, today's find is a singer born in Sacramento, Ca.  You wouldn't tell from her cover of a Georges Brassens song I have for you this week.  As good as perfect pronunciation, you can only tell if you know she's American and listen for it.   Apparently she spend part of her youth in France and Belgium and because of that she has mastered French.
