Music Tuesday #210: No mate, stay zen

Billy Nomates has been just under the radar for mainstream media apart from that one appearance on the BBC in 2022.  She is at the forefront of a new wave of an exciting style of music which is a mash-up of countless music genres. There is an intrinsic quality to what she brings and it is always exciting.  This song is post-punk, a staggering stumbling in a crazy world, trying to make sense of it all.  Some would say that this is the fundamental state of being human. This is the newest mirror being shown to world, confronting us with what we do, how we feel and what we are.   Billy Nomates - Balance is gone https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=le9DNwVZTFk

Music Tuesday #209: Magnetic, exhilarating and repulsive

Now and then a band comes by with a song so full of energy and creativity that you just have to share it with the world.  That's what I do this week.   There is an urgency, a end-of-the-world atmosphere that takes you on a wild ride with a clockwork orange like unease and the misery of trainspotting.  This music is raw, wild, dark and above all effin' fantastic.   Chibi Ichigo - Prachtig https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=_I7EmMX3Llg

Music Tuesday #208: Light melancholy

This is music made for driving back from a party in the early morning hours, when traffic is at its lightest.  With songs like this kilometers flash by in that dreamy, hazy state when you long for a soft pillow and a don't want to think about waking up in a few hours with a dry mouth and a full bladder. Think retro sound, folk influences, some darker instrumentations here and there throughout the album.  All very intriguing if you ask me. What a strong debut where both song quality and especially sound quality is so good.  Where will it all end?  Up to us to find out together with Mynolia. According to the Berlin based Mynolia, “All Things Heavy” is inspired by walking in toxic city rain in toxic cities.  Mynolia - All Things Heavy https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=eWA_EfJt8QA

Music Tuesday #207: C'est le Bluesrock

Laura Cox became known in pre-Tiktok times when she uploaded Youtube videos playing songs and solos from bands like Guns 'N Roses or Aerosmith. This was followed in 2017 by her debut, "Hard Blues Shot", which is well worth listening to, and in 2019, the equally good "Burning Bright". Her recipe of classic (hard) blues rock hasn't changed much on album number three: Laura Cox still loves big riffs, AC/DC or Thunder shine through, but not vocally. She doesn't try to be a rock singer, but quite rightly trusts in her own timbre. This album is refreshingly traditional. Would you guess she's French when you listen to this song?
