Music Tuesday #036: Backdrop music

Although I have tried I can't get into hip hop and the likes.  For some reason it doesn't speak to me.  I guess that's because I grew up in a privileged environment which is not conducive to relate to such music.  In the 90s you had the crossover trend of mixing music styles and then I very much liked Urban Dance Squad, Rage Against the Machine, Senser.  Tricky's Maxinquaye was on my playlist for a short time. Today I am recovering from a 10 hour jetlag and this fits my mood.  At first I was about to skip through this, but then the voice kicked in and that got me hooked. Makes me think about the pop up summer bars we see every year in the neighborhood.  This week's tune would work well on a warm summer evening while lounging together with friends and watching the sun go down behind the backdrop of the city I live in. Well done Mister T. Mister T - Black Drop https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=wiz7US96VS8 Full album: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=iIrNLqqSCJ

Music Tuesday #034: Balkan folk? No way, it's from the UK!

I like the less obvious music as you by now will have understood.  This one is from the UK although it doesn't sound like it at first glance.   Oi Va Voi is not in my regular playlist but I do like to come back to it a couple of times a year. Oi Va Voi - Black Sheep https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=cgY3ys2rwCU So you may wonder where you have heard that wonderful voice before?  I didn't make the connection until very recently: this is Alice Gold!  Bonus: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=aS5lmosUlrI

Music Tuesday #033: Sweet sixteen

The music you hear when you are 16 years old sticks to you for the rest of your life.  I started listening to music because of FM radio, there I discovered 80s pop music. Then an older friend of a friend got us into rock music.  I still remember the first time I heard Led Zeppelin, at that time almost 20 year old music, which blew my socks off.  So I got hooked on rock and it didn't stop there.  I discovered a lot of music in that period.  I also discovered earlier music when trying to find out where this music came from.  Around that time I listened to a radio programme called Domino, presented by Luc Janssen.  There I discovered MC5, which eventually allowed me to discover punk.  But that's another story. Today's songs are from classic rock's coming of age which for me is around 1969-1971: MC5 - Shakin' Street https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=UxvTIGbYIM0 Led Zeppelin - Your Time Is Gonna Come https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=5cvEVivHVsU Lyin', cheatin&
