Music Tuesday #109: Audiophile alert

It may not be common knowledge, but I am a bit of an audiophile.  But rather than spend enormous amounts on equipment or believe in much of the snake oil sold in the audio world, I keep looking for that which gives me the best "bang for the buck". Hence my main sound system runs a couple of Jamo Cornet 195 floor standers, paired with a Marantz PM8000, Marantz CD6000 OSE and a Pro-Ject Debut turntable.  My desk where I work at features 2 full-range transmission line speakers which I made myself, designed around a Monacor SPH-60x full range speaker, driven by an Indeed 25W TA2021 class T amplifier and paired with a Fostex PM-SUBmini 2.  Everywhere else around the house you will find Sonos Play 5s, a beam and a Play 1.  There is also a DIY internet radio, based on a raspberry PI zero and with built-in power supply and amp based on the ST Microelectronics TDA7384 chip in a home made wooden enclosure and 2 full range Visaton F 8 SC drivers.  When it needs to be quiet, or when I re

Music Tuesday #108: Hot fusion

I have a jewel for those who like very complicated music and odd 21/8 time signatures.  This song has classic piano fused with folk music influences and rock base. I don't know of any other music with a 21/8 time signature.  Some background search will teach you that 21/10 does occur (Gojira - The art of dying,  Frank Zappa - Keep it greasy), albeit very rarely.  I guess mainly musicians and high-brow intellectuals will enjoy this immensely. Music Tuesday #107: Eclectic Electric Episode 4: Smooth Sample Selfie

This is the kind of music that helps me to focus while working. That is, until I start to listen to the production quality and feel the need to have a coffee.  This is quintessential hipster bar coffee music, isn't it? Hi mister mustached bartender, one Americano please!   Enjoy the Reggae influenced first track of Pit Baumgartner's newest album. Music Tuesday #106: O Punks, where art thou?

There once was a punkwave band in the late 70s in Belgium which is now considered as one of the most amazing bands ever.   At least in Belgium.  Although they split in 1982, only a couple of years after they formed the band and with only one album to show for, due to much consumption of chemical circumstances. Enjoy their proto-doom sound and punk influences while creating the sound that would come 5 years later with the like of Anne Clark or The Sisters of Mercy.  Now they are back.  Good thing you can be in your 60s and still be relevant.
