Music Tuesday #049: Faith Fever

Axel Peleman doesn't mention it often, but he's been the lead singer/bass player for the Belgian band Ashbury Faith in the early nineties.  His insatiable thirst for at least two out of the music big three (sex, drugs and rock 'n roll) became almost his undoing.  Look it up to find out more.  Nevertheless this band made fantastic music and their live performance was absolutely amazing.   This time no videos where you may spot me, but one of the few songs I could find on YouTube.  I've got two albums on CD at home somewhere, they must be getting pretty rare if you can't find all music online. Since then Axel Peleman has played in many bands like Camden, Automatic Buffalo (with Luc De Vos), The Paranoiacs and de Kreuners.  He also sings in his native Antwerp dialect. Music Tuesday #048: Progressive metal time

Here's a little secret: Chronologist.  I can't believe that their first album Cartographer has so few hits on YouTube.  If only these bands would be booked at major festivals in Europe, sigh.  Cartographer is a bit of a hit and miss album, but overall I like what they have done.  This is music perfect for me to work with as there are no vocals.  I can't concentrate when there are vocals, unless I know the lyrics by heart.  I am writing this about a month before this post goes online, and I just discovered the band from Austin, Texas had a second album out in March.   I will be checking this one out in the coming weeks.  Let me know what you think of it:  https://chronologist.bandcamp.com/ Chronologist - Bazooka https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=KES2l10tzCQ Chronologist - Cartographer [full album] https://www.youtube.com/playlist?list=PL6YfeZJyVCJx_SitIXTR8xjf6LXrBavk- Free ringtone: https://chronologist.bandcamp.com/track/metal-presto-ringtone

Music Tuesday #047: Easy

The quintessential Sunday morning song is without a doubt "Easy" by, as I thought for a long time, Faith No More.  It is a song which throws me back to one of the last songs the DJ played at a weekend party (at 3AM in the morning) which we organized with our class just months before we would split up and enroll in various higher education studies.  At that time when the song played the lights turned on and we were confronted with a huge mess we still had to clean up before we could go home.  Do you recognize that feeling of being knackered, slightly drunk and very sweaty but extremely happy about how the party turned out to be?  Well that is welded in my mind to the song by Faith No More. As with more and more things I believe to know, I turned out to be wrong about that song being an original by Faith No More. Easy was written by Lionel Richie and recorded with the Commodores in 1977 on the Motown label.  Apparently it was recorded in Alabama where Lionel Richie lived a

Music Tuesday #046: Bert and... John

A couple of months ago I noticed some background music which I managed to Shazam before it was gone.  The acoustic guitar sound reminded me of something that eluded me at the time.  I couldn't immediately tell whether it was new music or something of bygone days.  Turns out that the music was from a hitherto unknown duo Bert and John , released in the mid 60s.   It is beautiful, finger picking style acoustic guitar which I enjoy very much.  Since then I haven't listened much as I feel it works best on a rainy day when you have time to fully experience the album with a strong cuppa. In a pinch a good whiskey would be a nice pairing as well. Bert and John - Goodbye Pork Pie Hat https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=WfeXvvQ98y8
