Music Tuesday #047: Easy

The quintessential Sunday morning song is without a doubt "Easy" by, as I thought for a long time, Faith No More.  It is a song which throws me back to one of the last songs the DJ played at a weekend party (at 3AM in the morning) which we organized with our class just months before we would split up and enroll in various higher education studies.  At that time when the song played the lights turned on and we were confronted with a huge mess we still had to clean up before we could go home.  Do you recognize that feeling of being knackered, slightly drunk and very sweaty but extremely happy about how the party turned out to be?  Well that is welded in my mind to the song by Faith No More.

As with more and more things I believe to know, I turned out to be wrong about that song being an original by Faith No More.

Easy was written by Lionel Richie and recorded with the Commodores in 1977 on the Motown label.  Apparently it was recorded in Alabama where Lionel Richie lived and not in the city of Detroit which is what I think of when hearing a Motown song.

Faith No More little known fact:  they covered Easy during the recording of their biggest album "Angel Dust" so that they could play that instead of the traditional Balck Sabbath's "War Pigs" cover they used to do.  Allegedly they did this to piss off heavy metal fans attending their shows.

Music Tuesday #083: The Belgian Stooges

When everything is the same and you can't find any change in an endless monotone landscape you would be bored to death.  That is why people go to the sea or climb mountains.  When there is an end, a cravasse, a feature which is unique there you will find mankind.  We need something else to feel alive.  I will give you La Muerte this week.   Although the name sounds like they're a Latin band, they're definitely not. Do you know them?  They have been a band from Brussels since 1983.  And just like Brussels who gets its character by being squeezed between the Flemish, Walloon and European expat forces, these guys have been molded by many musical trends and influences.  As a result, think blues meets heavy-metal, with some synth thrown for good measure.  This is not for the fainthearted. But this does cleanse the soul. La Muerte - Crash Baby, Crash https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=NR3SH6lGBZk

Music Tuesday #176: Success is a fleeting moment

This week marks the 4th year that this blog has been running.  Countless times I have almost given up, the stress of coming up with new songs and writing something about it is not a mere trifle. This week I was thinking about bands that missed their opportunity to become hugely successful, not that you must pursue this of course.  But sometimes bands disappear from the scene just before they will make it.  And that's a pity. The band I present to you split just when their breakthrough was imminent.  Maybe, in true punk style, they didn't want success?  I don't blame them.  Ultimately everyone should be allowed to make that choice.  Success is not a guarantee for happiness I guess. Music Tuesday #212: Welcome to the AA

This band is not neutral, this song certainly isn't.  I like music that has something to say.  Enjoy. Anti-Flag - American Attraction (Acoustic) https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=6INbXgIB6P0 Anti-Flag - American Attraction (Original version) https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=w008c1-fHIk
