Music Tuesday #219: 250 million in 4 months

An unknown indie band throws a song onto spotify and 4 months later amasses 250 million plays... How amazing is that?  The post-punk indie song is captivating and I cannot put my finger on what exactly makes it so alluring.  Another song of this calibre and this band will be featuring on major festivals soon.  I hear elements that make me think of a couple of new upcoming London bands, but I also hear K.Flay in the vocals and way in the background guitars with more than a passing resemblance to The Cure. Music Tuesday #218: Dead Bob says punk is alive

Dead Bob is John Wright, of NomeansNo/Hanson Brothers/Mr Wright & Mr Wrong/Show Business Giants/Compressorhead/DOA/Ford Pier/Godzballs fame.  I was so looking forward to this album.  And finally here it is.  And now I have to choose a song which should trigger you to listen to the Nomeansno back catalog, of which only a tiny portion can be found on Spotify. Youtube will be your friend for this music. Expect the unexpected.  You will hear punk amongst other influences.  Because not doing what is expected is very punk.   Dead Bob - Life Like https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=r6uN28ccvHM Dead Bob - I'm Going to Make you Cry https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=gvQse0TUaJM

Music Tuesday #217: Fresh calypso pop

Freschard is French, lives in Berlin since 2004 as far as I know, and sings in English.  Endearing English I must say.  She's been active since around 2005 and has released albums on an almost yearly basis.  This week's song is a fun lo-fi earworm released in 20156.  It sounds like Pomplamoose singing C.W. Stoneking's calypso songs.  At least one of these two have featured here already. I guess calypso is my secret pleasure. Freschard - Work https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=5ESamGrZKB8

Music Tuesday #216: Culture Club

It's a double date this week with the alternative pop by Angel Corpus Christi, hailing from San Francisco, CA. John Cassavetes was an American actor, director, and screenwriter known for his pioneering work in independent cinema. He made a name for himself in the 1960s and 70s with films that explored human relationships and emotions, often using improvisation and naturalistic acting. His legacy continues to influence filmmakers today. You may remember him from the 1968 movie Rosemary's Baby. This first song is about all the disasters which happen in the world and how we are insensitive to all that.  But then random little things do hit home and we become emotional.  This song is very relevant today. Just like the second song which is fun until you start listening to the lyrics. Music Tuesday #215: B-side day

There is not much to find about the UK band Pink Umbrellas. I found this song through Forgotify (songs that have almost no plays on Spotify).  I think this one deserves more than a handful plays.  The sound is so early eighties, the music itself is classified a psychedelic rock.  The single cover illustrates this clearly.  Just look it up. I don´t like the A-side Rasperry Rainbow, but the B-side is sufficiently off the rails to call this gem.  Pink Umbrellas  - Oh No! The Insect Man https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=I9AVlUIznvQ
