Music Tuesday #158: El gringo flamenco

I sometimes listen to more than 20 songs before I pick one for the blog.  Writing up the weekly blog itself takes a lot less time than selecting the music.  I do spend too much time doing this for a non-existing readership I presume.  Anyway it is a good exercise.  Today a band I honestly have forgotten about until I started looking at the music I still have on my computer.  In the early 2000s I ripped all my CDs and kept a rather large collection on sticks, hard drives etc.  I am happy I did because quite some music has since then disappeared.  Some things you can't find on streaming services or YouTube so I am happy I can still enjoy that.  You will not, because I will not share it, it's my treat! The duo uses guitar loop effects to layer the music so all you hear is actually played live by the two of them. Montana Skies - Gringo Flamenco https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=Ysn6EWcghDs

Music Tuesday #157: Walking your cat named dog

Way back in 1966 Norma Tanega released a fantastic album called "Walkin' My Cat Named Dog".   Not the best known folk singer out there, but she wrote songs for more famous singers throughout her career.  Lately her work has been getting more attention because today's song features as the title song to the film and the subsequent comedy series "What We Do in the Shadows". It is easy enough to find the orginal, but I like this cover song by Ismay. Music Tuesday #156: It's not something you catch on holiday

In the 3 or 4 years or so since I've started doing this blog I've learned to keep my ears open for any music that can fit on this eclectic music blog.  I keep getting surprised at how music made in my neighborhood can be unknown to me while at the same time have a large following elsewhere in the world.  This is a plea to be receptive to local music.  It is local produce after all.  Buy local!  That counts for the arts too.  I did some research on this band today, hailing from Wervik, Belgium so that you don't have to. They've delivered 5 albums to the world before I even knew about them.  This is music for people with a strong stomach: black metal, death-doom kind of vibes.  Their latest album (2020 Re-Incentive) has mixed vocals, I am not a fan of unrecognizable grunts, so that is a good thing.  The keyboards deliver both an eerie soundscape as well as some very deep bass sounds here end there. I can believe that the bass player alone was responsible for that as the b
