Music Tuesday #083: The Belgian Stooges

When everything is the same and you can't find any change in an endless monotone landscape you would be bored to death.  That is why people go to the sea or climb mountains.  When there is an end, a cravasse, a feature which is unique there you will find mankind.  We need something else to feel alive.  I will give you La Muerte this week.   Although the name sounds like they're a Latin band, they're definitely not. Do you know them?  They have been a band from Brussels since 1983.  And just like Brussels who gets its character by being squeezed between the Flemish, Walloon and European expat forces, these guys have been molded by many musical trends and influences.  As a result, think blues meets heavy-metal, with some synth thrown for good measure.  This is not for the fainthearted. But this does cleanse the soul. La Muerte - Crash Baby, Crash https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=NR3SH6lGBZk

Music Tuesday #082: Turkish Delight

There are a handful of concerts in my life where I listened to bands I had never heard of before. This week's singer came onto the stage with such a strong voice and such panache that I totally forgot to move on to my original destination: the concert by Lou Reed at the same time at this festival.  Never did see Lou Reed live again.  But then, I was happy to have been exposed to Sertab Erener.  That was at Folkfestival Dranouter 2000 by the way.  Since then I know what it means to have your socks knocked off. I have listened to the 1999 album "Sertab" on and off for the last 20 years, because it is the only way to relive that memory of a perfect evening and a perfect show. Music Tuesday #081: Sweet Grave

Here's another pearl if you like acoustic guitar accompanied by a fantastic female voice.  Barebone music lifted up by the fantastic lyrics.  You doubt me?  Here's a couple of lines from the album I want you to enjoy this week: Honey from the Tombs by Amy Millan. "Sometimes I feel that my only friend is a whisky glass You know it don't stop the time but it helps it pass" "Today I'm sinkin' lower than the sun does on a Sunday" "Your eyes are like burned-out headlights A little thunder in the night" Amy Millan - Losin' You https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=EGSfZtaobss My pleasure.

Music Tuesday #079: Some folk in the woods

Every once in a long while you hear a song which instantly hits home.  Today's song appeared on a Spotify playlist while looking for similar music to my favorite band of the moment (Son of Town Hall).  It's good that there's still music that can blow me away when I hear it for the first time.
