Music Tuesday #066: humbling hymns

No matter what style of music, the good stuff moves you.  Since the very first time I header this song, I have gone back to it in times of melancholic musings.  A profound text and the magic of human voices singing together.  What more can you ask for?  The lyrics are attributed to Dr. Horatius Bonar, a Scottish hymnodist ( http://www.hymntime.com/tch/htm/o/n/l/y/onlyreme.htm ). Fading away like the stars in the morning Losing their light in the glorious sun Thus would we pass from this earth and its toiling Only remembered for what we have done Only remembered only remembered Only remembered for what we have done Thus would we pass from this earth and its toiling Only remembered for what we have done Only the truth that in life we have spoken Only the seed that in life we have sown These shall pass onwards when we are forgotten Only remembered for what we have done Only remembered only remembered Only remembered for what we have done These shall pass onwards when w

Music Tuesday #065: Under Cover Episode 4 - Uhhh really?

My search for surprising covers brings me to the far corners of the internet.  At least, that's how it looks like from where I usually roam. I was so suprised to learn that Mariah Carey wasn't the first to torture my ears.   Turns out that Badfinger was destined to be the next Beatles.  Unfortunately a series of unfortunate events, bad management and, I guess, bad luck relegated them to the footnotes of music history.  Until now, where we can all agree that picking the best of the two songs below is nigh on impossible. Music Tuesday #063: Metal wasn't my first love

I can't stand most of the metal genres (https://mapofmetal.com), I kind a got stuck on Alternative Metal, Nu Metal and some Grunge.  I never really understood some of the more extreme forms.  Although I have some Death Metal in my collection as well as some Symphonic Metal. There are two Belgian bands that I have come across worth looking further into.  First up Amenra, a band who's been churning out music for a about twenty years now.  I found this song quite enjoyable. To be continued. Amenra - A solitary reign https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=CD7bxyzFbC4 And then Brutus, new kids on my block. This live recording got me really interested.  I liked the clean guitar sound and the singer/drummer's voice with the little mistakes at the beginning of the song.  This is so far from the hyper clean voices which a computer auto-tuned to death (American songs for kids suffer from this to the extreme:  https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=FX20kcp7j5c ).
