Music Tuesday #033: Sweet sixteen

The music you hear when you are 16 years old sticks to you for the rest of your life.  I started listening to music because of FM radio, there I discovered 80s pop music. Then an older friend of a friend got us into rock music.  I still remember the first time I heard Led Zeppelin, at that time almost 20 year old music, which blew my socks off.  So I got hooked on rock and it didn't stop there.  I discovered a lot of music in that period.  I also discovered earlier music when trying to find out where this music came from.  Around that time I listened to a radio programme called Domino, presented by Luc Janssen.  There I discovered MC5, which eventually allowed me to discover punk.  But that's another story. Today's songs are from classic rock's coming of age which for me is around 1969-1971:

Lyin', cheatin', hurtin, that's all you seem to do.
Messin' around with every guy in town,
Puttin' me down for thinkin' of someone new.
Always the same, playin' your game,
Drive me insane, trouble is gonna come to you,
One of these days and it won't be long,
You'll look for me but baby, I'll be gone.
This is all I gotta say to you woman:...

Music Tuesday #083: The Belgian Stooges

When everything is the same and you can't find any change in an endless monotone landscape you would be bored to death.  That is why people go to the sea or climb mountains.  When there is an end, a cravasse, a feature which is unique there you will find mankind.  We need something else to feel alive.  I will give you La Muerte this week.   Although the name sounds like they're a Latin band, they're definitely not. Do you know them?  They have been a band from Brussels since 1983.  And just like Brussels who gets its character by being squeezed between the Flemish, Walloon and European expat forces, these guys have been molded by many musical trends and influences.  As a result, think blues meets heavy-metal, with some synth thrown for good measure.  This is not for the fainthearted. But this does cleanse the soul. La Muerte - Crash Baby, Crash https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=NR3SH6lGBZk

Music Tuesday #176: Success is a fleeting moment

This week marks the 4th year that this blog has been running.  Countless times I have almost given up, the stress of coming up with new songs and writing something about it is not a mere trifle. This week I was thinking about bands that missed their opportunity to become hugely successful, not that you must pursue this of course.  But sometimes bands disappear from the scene just before they will make it.  And that's a pity. The band I present to you split just when their breakthrough was imminent.  Maybe, in true punk style, they didn't want success?  I don't blame them.  Ultimately everyone should be allowed to make that choice.  Success is not a guarantee for happiness I guess. Music Tuesday #212: Welcome to the AA

This band is not neutral, this song certainly isn't.  I like music that has something to say.  Enjoy. Anti-Flag - American Attraction (Acoustic) https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=6INbXgIB6P0 Anti-Flag - American Attraction (Original version) https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=w008c1-fHIk
