Music Tuesday #255: Who's afraid of Waan?

Flemish music this week with a new alt-rock band hailing from Brussels.  Their debut album is inspired by Leonard Cohen, Neil Yong and Nick Cave.  In terms of setting expectations that's a ballsy move.  My expectations are not high nowadays.  There are too many songs I skip when looking for new music.  But this one stuck to me because this is not just a happy coincidence of sounds, but a real song.  With a beautiful melancholic soundtrack that underscores the uneasiness of the lyrics.  The song is about being afraid (bang in Dutch):

Anxious
I'm very scared
I've been around for a long time
Very scared
....

The picture for this post is from the clip which was made using AI.  As I look for AI created pictures for my posts I considered this a perfect fit.

Music Tuesday #083: The Belgian Stooges

When everything is the same and you can't find any change in an endless monotone landscape you would be bored to death.  That is why people go to the sea or climb mountains.  When there is an end, a cravasse, a feature which is unique there you will find mankind.  We need something else to feel alive.  I will give you La Muerte this week.   Although the name sounds like they're a Latin band, they're definitely not. Do you know them?  They have been a band from Brussels since 1983.  And just like Brussels who gets its character by being squeezed between the Flemish, Walloon and European expat forces, these guys have been molded by many musical trends and influences.  As a result, think blues meets heavy-metal, with some synth thrown for good measure.  This is not for the fainthearted. But this does cleanse the soul. La Muerte - Crash Baby, Crash https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=NR3SH6lGBZk

Music Tuesday #176: Success is a fleeting moment

This week marks the 4th year that this blog has been running.  Countless times I have almost given up, the stress of coming up with new songs and writing something about it is not a mere trifle. This week I was thinking about bands that missed their opportunity to become hugely successful, not that you must pursue this of course.  But sometimes bands disappear from the scene just before they will make it.  And that's a pity. The band I present to you split just when their breakthrough was imminent.  Maybe, in true punk style, they didn't want success?  I don't blame them.  Ultimately everyone should be allowed to make that choice.  Success is not a guarantee for happiness I guess. Music Tuesday #228: Rinse and repeat

So you have found a great riff.  Why don't you put it on repeat for 13 or so minutes?   That is basically the starting point of the song today.  It never gets boring, with its heavy epic sound and clean vocals.  What surprised me most was the fact that this band sounds way larger than the 3 band members should be able to produce.  I know one thing, within 30 seconds of my first listening session I knew this band would be featured here.
