Music Tuesday #197: Outlaw music

And now for something completely different.  Alex Williams has a voice that's perfect for country music. So that's what he sings.  And he does sing well.  His newest album is a wonderful example of Outlaw-style country music with a very modern twist.  This is not music that I will seek out, let alone start to square dance on, but I came across this artist and couldn't ignore his authenticity. This is music that comes from the heart.  And that is rare enough to be treasured.

Do you know them?  They have been a band from Brussels since 1983.  And just like Brussels who gets its character by being squeezed between the Flemish, Walloon and European expat forces, these guys have been molded by many musical trends and influences.  As a result, think blues meets heavy-metal, with some synth thrown for good measure.  This is not for the fainthearted. Music Tuesday #176: Success is a fleeting moment

This week marks the 4th year that this blog has been running.  Countless times I have almost given up, the stress of coming up with new songs and writing something about it is not a mere trifle. This week I was thinking about bands that missed their opportunity to become hugely successful, not that you must pursue this of course.  But sometimes bands disappear from the scene just before they will make it.  And that's a pity. The band I present to you split just when their breakthrough was imminent.  Maybe, in true punk style, they didn't want success?  I don't blame them.  Ultimately everyone should be allowed to make that choice.  Success is not a guarantee for happiness I guess.
