Music Tuesday #171: Can't undo this

I expect a lot from Annicke Shireen after her great contribution to Heilung, now launched as a solo artist since last year.  We already got two ep's, this year a third album called "Demonette". She is a busy bee.  I chose this song on a hunch and it delivers.  We will be hearing a lot more from her in the future for sure.

This is metal music I adore: clean voices, heavy sound uplifting the song to grandeur and bringing an energy which forces you to join the rhythm.  There is a good use of breaks and a great dynamic range.

Music Tuesday #176: Success is a fleeting moment

This week marks the 4th year that this blog has been running.  Countless times I have almost given up, the stress of coming up with new songs and writing something about it is not a mere trifle. This week I was thinking about bands that missed their opportunity to become hugely successful, not that you must pursue this of course.  But sometimes bands disappear from the scene just before they will make it.  And that's a pity. The band I present to you split just when their breakthrough was imminent.  Maybe, in true punk style, they didn't want success?  I don't blame them.  Ultimately everyone should be allowed to make that choice.  Success is not a guarantee for happiness I guess. Music Tuesday #083: The Belgian Stooges

When everything is the same and you can't find any change in an endless monotone landscape you would be bored to death.  That is why people go to the sea or climb mountains.  When there is an end, a cravasse, a feature which is unique there you will find mankind.  We need something else to feel alive.  I will give you La Muerte this week.   Although the name sounds like they're a Latin band, they're definitely not. Do you know them?  They have been a band from Brussels since 1983.  And just like Brussels who gets its character by being squeezed between the Flemish, Walloon and European expat forces, these guys have been molded by many musical trends and influences.  As a result, think blues meets heavy-metal, with some synth thrown for good measure.  This is not for the fainthearted. But this does cleanse the soul. La Muerte - Crash Baby, Crash https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=NR3SH6lGBZk

Music Tuesday #218: Dead Bob says punk is alive

Dead Bob is John Wright, of NomeansNo/Hanson Brothers/Mr Wright & Mr Wrong/Show Business Giants/Compressorhead/DOA/Ford Pier/Godzballs fame.  I was so looking forward to this album.  And finally here it is.  And now I have to choose a song which should trigger you to listen to the Nomeansno back catalog, of which only a tiny portion can be found on Spotify. Youtube will be your friend for this music. Expect the unexpected.  You will hear punk amongst other influences.  Because not doing what is expected is very punk.   Dead Bob - Life Like https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=r6uN28ccvHM Dead Bob - I'm Going to Make you Cry https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=gvQse0TUaJM
